Cross + Culture - The 7 Sayings
Bring your anger, anxiety, doubts, and longings about faith and the world we're living in. Through Lent, we'll gather at the cross to wrestle with Jesus' seven last words—finding a way forward when the path isn't clear.

Centering Focus - Awareness and Gratitude - Lord’s Prayer - Collect
Centering Focus (Nicene Creed)
All: I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Awareness and Gratitude
The Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory—now and forever. Amen.
Collect (Prayer of Intention)
Leader: God our deliverer, you walk with the meek and the poor,
the compassionate and those who mourn,
and you call us to walk humbly with you.
When we are foolish, be our wisdom; when we are weak, be our strength; so as we learn to do justice and love mercy, your ruling presence may come as blessing. Amen.
Scripture
Matthew 17:1-11
Prayer
God, before Jesus went to the cross, you revealed his glory on the mountain. As we look to him in faith and see the light of who he is, strengthen us to carry our own crosses. Shape us into his image, growing ever more like him in wholeness and holiness. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
