Cross + Culture - The 7 Sayings

Bring your anger, anxiety, doubts, and longings about faith and the world we're living in. Through Lent, we'll gather at the cross to wrestle with Jesus' seven last words—finding a way forward when the path isn't clear.

Berry Farm, Wednesdays @ 6 PM, through Holy Week

Bread and Wine Town Hall

Join us Wednesday, April 8 for our Town Hall meeting.
We will talk about who we are as a Church body, and our year of Formation: our church, our public-facing voice, and our spiritual formation together.

We would love to hear everyone’s thoughts at this time. In order to hear from as many as possible, we ask that anyone who wishes to share would write down their answer beforehand and read it at the town hall. 3 Min per person.

Questions:

  • What do you love about B+W?

  • What do you hope we will become in the future?

Lyrics

Reckless Love

Verse 1

Before I spoke a word you were singing over me
You have been so so good to me
Before I took a breath you breathed your life in me
You have been so so kind to me

Chorus

O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God
O it chases me down fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give yourself away
O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God

Verse 2

When I was your foe still your love fought for me
You have been so so good to me
When I felt no worth You paid it all for me
You have been so so kind to me

Chorus

O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God
O it chases me down fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give yourself away
O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God

Bridge

There's no shadow you won't light up
Mountain you won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall you won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me

Chorus

O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God
O it chases me down fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it I don't deserve it
Still You give Yourself away
O the overwhelming never-ending reckless love of God

No Longer Slaves

Verse 1

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
Till all my fears are gone

Chorus

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

Verse 2

From my Mother's womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I've been born again into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

Chorus

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

Bridge

You split the sea so I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me so I could stand and sing
I am a child of God

Chorus

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

My Jesus, I Love Thee

Verse 1

My Jesus I love Thee I know Thou art mine
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious Redeemer my Savior art Thou
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Verse 2

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Verse 3

I'll love Thee in life I will love Thee in death
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Verse 4

In mansions of glory and endless delight
I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus 'tis now

Prayer

4 Movements:

Centering Focus - Reflection and Petition - Prayer of Confession - Lord’s Prayer

Centering Focus

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters
He restores my soul
He leads me in right paths for his Name’s sake
Your rod and your staff are comfort to me
Even though I walk in the darkest valley, I fear no evil for you are with me;
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

Reflection and Petition

Prayer of Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name;
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory—now and forever. Amen.

Scripture

John 3:1-17

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Lyrics

Gratitude

Verse 1

All my words fall short, I got nothing new
How could I express, ll my gratitude

Verse 2

I could sing these songs, as I often do
But every song must end, and You never do

Chorus

So I throw up my hands and praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah hallelujah
And I know it’s not much but I’ve nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing hallelujah, hallelujah

Verse 3

I’ve got one response, I’ve got just one move
With my arms stretched wide, I will worship You

Bridge

Come on my soul, oh don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song, ‘cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord
